Guide

Become a mentor that changes lives

The CBC mentorship programme invites mentors who can commit 2–4 hours per month during the school year to mentor Grade 11 and 12 or post-secondary students. As a CBC mentor, you will be giving back to the community by supporting our youth to achieve academic and personal success on their educational and career journey. Mentors provide goal-oriented virtual mentoring sessions, constructive advice and feedback, new perspectives on problem solving, and a positive environment that empowers mentees to excel.

Mentorship

What you offer as a mentor

As a mentor, you bring lived experience, thoughtful guidance and genuine commitment. You meet regularly with your mentee to offer honest feedback, practical insight and encouragement – walking alongside someone who is ready to grow and build their future.

  • Supportive goal-oriented ‘virtual’ mentoring sessions.

  • Commitment to meet and be present at each mentoring session.

  • Constructive advice and feedback.

  • New perspectives on how to problem solve and approach new challenges.

  • Support with seeking resources to help with their personal growth.

  • A positive environment that empowers them to excel during their development journey.

Mentorship

What you receive as a mentor

Mentors invest their time and expertise to support the next generation of Black leaders in Calgary – and they don’t do it alone. As a mentor, you receive guidance, resources and recognition that support your growth while you make meaningful impact through mentorship.

  • Orientation overview and material to prepare you for your mentorship.

  • Support from our team throughout the program.

  • Survey to provide feedback regarding your mentorship progress and experience.

  • End-of-year recognition for participation in the program.
